Great news!
On 02/12/2009, The Wandering Journal has arrived to its very first stop in its travels: Irmo, SC. To help celebrate this occasion I have set up a Google Map that will visually chronicle each stop when possible. To help keep it simple (and reasonably private), I've only given the cities/towns where it has arrived at.

The Wandering Journal Map

I wonder where it end up next after its first week? Any places you folks want to see the Journal stop by? Feel free to comment and email me. And to you Journal Hosts out there, if you do any interesting with The Wandering Journal, feel free to send me your pictures and stories. I'd like to know the area the Journal is hanging out in.

Until next time!

This musical meme was brought to by the creative artist [info]rufftoon . I enjoyed it so much that I had to post it here. Now, as I have a huge collection (over 1300+) I'm quite interested in what results. So enough rambling, on to the meme!

While watching the news I watched a story on someone on traveling the 50 states, just because he could. I wondered how was this person, if he was, recording his travels. Was he doing it by photos, video or by memory alone? I then realized that all of them are a form of journals, no matter the medium.

I then wondered what would to be like one of those journals, traveling with him. What would I see, hear and experience? Then it struck me. I can be that journal, in a fashion. But I also wanted others to share in the experience of travel. But how would I do that? Ideas flashed though my mind. So thinking wildly and grabbing some blank journals that were cluttered around the house, I quickly wrote down the ideas and rules for what I would call The Wandering Journal.

The Wandering Journal Rules (Original Draft) )

Now I played it fast and loose with the rules so I thought of a F.A.Q. for the questions that you might have.

The FAQ )

As I finish this entry here I have begun the steps to send the very first version of The Wandering Journal out into the world. Now I don't know if someone has done this before but I just have such a strong urge to do this. I just want to see how this will play out. Where will the journal go? Who will it meet? What will be put in its entries? Will it get lost? Will I ever hear from it ever again? Am I crazy?

(catches breath)

What if succeeds and I get it back? Well I have thought of that too. After The Wandering Journal is filled and returned, I'll post it online, but its travels will not end. No. In fact as soon as it returns, I'll will send a new one out! To who? Who knows? Maybe to the one with the most creative entry or the most numerous. Maybe to the one in the exotic place or the most down to earth? Or even to the one who filled in the last page!

But what if I find out that I can't get The Wandering Journal back, you ask? Well that is the beauty of it. Even in failure, I can send another out and try again! Like the well know quote says:

"If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody."-Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth

Well, if I keep sending out The Wandering Journal out long enough, it will come home. If only for a short time.

Until next time,
